The Art of the Written Word
In a world of digital invitations and auto-filled greetings, there’s something undeniably special about receiving a beautifully hand-lettered note, a custom menu at your place setting, or an elegant wedding invitation crafted with care. Enter The Script Shop, a bespoke calligraphy studio where art and sentiment meet in perfect harmony. We sat down with its founder, a true artist of pen and paper, to talk about how calligraphy can add an unforgettable touch to spring entertaining, from Easter brunches to wedding season.
Spring’s Soft and Romantic Palette
Spring is all about renewal—longer days, blooming flowers, and a fresh start for celebrations. It’s no surprise that the color palettes reflect that, too.
“With spring in the air, we are coming out of the darker colors and earth tones of winter and diving into pastels, light florals, and the soft hues of flowers in bloom,” she shares. “Right now, I’m loving rosey pinks, mauves, and dusty pinks paired with a viney floral. It’s a happy time of year, and our palettes should reflect that joy.”
For those planning spring weddings or Easter gatherings, embracing these delicate hues in your calligraphy details—whether through invitations, place cards, or menu accents—adds an element of charm and thoughtfulness that won’t go unnoticed.
The Power of the Personal Touch
When it comes to hosting, it’s often the little details that make guests feel truly special.
“I love creating holiday place settings and décor,” she says. “Place cards are such a simple way to make people feel valued—it dedicates a space just for them. And there are so many creative ways to bring calligraphy into a tablescape! A handwritten menu tucked into a soft blue dinner napkin, a little yellow egg with a guest’s name painted in pink—it’s those little moments that make an event feel truly unique.”
The personal touch is what keeps calligraphy timeless, even in a digital age. “Calligraphy is art, and art tells a story,” she explains. “Opening a handwritten letter, seeing a beautifully penned name at your seat—these are moments that make people feel important. No computer can replicate that feeling.”

A Love for Letters: The Birth of The Script Shop
Calligraphy wasn’t always the plan, but the passion for writing was there from the start.
“I’ve always loved to write and doodle,” she recalls. “I wasn’t necessarily an artist growing up—I was more into sports and the outdoors—but I loved playing around with different handwriting styles.”
It wasn’t until becoming a new mother that she found herself drawn to calligraphy in a more serious way. “I needed a creative hobby I could do at home. I started with Christmas cards, which led to addressing envelopes, and it just grew from there.”
A fateful online calligraphy class with the talented Melissa Esplin changed everything. “She became a mentor and a friend, pushing me to take my skills further. Now, The Script Shop will be celebrating its tenth anniversary in July 2025!”
Weddings in Full Bloom
With spring being a peak season for weddings, trends in calligraphy are ever-evolving.
“I’m seeing a lot of soft, muted neutrals this year—taupe, soft warm grey, and sage green for letterpress and engraved invitations,” she notes. “Brides are also loving watercolor bows. Whether on the invitation, the napkin, or at the top of a save-the-date, bows are definitely in!”
Beyond invitations, custom calligraphy touches can elevate every aspect of a wedding. “It’s about creating something that feels personal to the couple,” she says. “I love when a bride tells me she loves my work after seeing the first proof—it’s such a rewarding feeling.”
Easter Elegance
For those planning an Easter gathering, a few handwritten details can turn an everyday table into an elegant celebration.
“I’d design a custom Easter brunch menu with watercolor-painted scalloped edges, little bunny place cards, and hand-painted eggs with each guest’s name on their plate,” she says. “It’s the little details that make a gathering feel truly special.”
Looking Ahead: The Future of The Script Shop
As The Script Shop approaches its 10th anniversary, exciting new projects are on the horizon.
“This summer, I’ll be working on a collection that incorporates a lot of my watercolor painting. I can’t wait to share it with the world!” she says.
For those wanting to follow along, order custom calligraphy, or even take a workshop, she invites readers to connect. “Find me at www.thescriptshopcalligraphy.com or on social media @thescriptshop. I’d love, love, love to help!”
